5 January 2023|Thoughts about
Ok, I admit the headline is maybe a bit excessive, but today my youngest daughter walked to and from school with a friend, instead of with me. This was obviously going to happen at some point, but suddenly it was today. She starts high school this year so it’s amazing she still lets me walk with her now! Most of you are likely thinking “What’s the big deal?”, and you’re probably right. But for me, it’s just a big reminder that my youngest is growing up and that time never stops. Having missed out on things like this with all my daughters (leaving for work at 6.20am) I’m probably selfishly trying to hang on a bit tighter than I should. I’ve really enjoyed walking her to and from school, talking about the day ahead on the way in and listening to the events that unfolded on the way home! I never knew the life of a primary school girl could be so full of drama!
It’s fantastic for her though and makes me very happy. When we lived in Kirkcaldy, the school was too far away to walk so we had to drive her there. Now, in St Andrews, this is the first time she has been within walking distance of the school. It is also the first time there has been a friend close by that she can walk with too. Hopefully, it’s another thing that will help her settle here and miss her old friends a little less. I also hope that she doesn’t fall out with the new friend and they can keep walking together too!
